Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 12 (ANI): Referring to the recent Special Investigation Team (SIT) report, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said that it unearths a “cartel” working to defame the development processes of India and shows the involvement of one Pakistani citizen and the British wife of a member of Parliament. He said that the report will be released for the public after the cabinet discusses it.
Sarma was referring to the wife of Congress MP and party’s Assam unit president Gaurav Gogoi.
“This is a very explosive report of 96 pages. We have recovered many important documents related to the sovereignty of our country. After the report is discussed in the cabinet, we will release it to the public. It is a kind of cartel that was working to defame the development processes of our country. In that entire cartel, one Pakistani citizen and the British wife of the MP have played a big role. It is completely clear now,” Sarma told reporters.
“Once the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections are over, the cabinet will discuss the report and take the next step,” he added.
Speaking on the election manifesto released for BTC elections, Sarma said, “In our manifesto, we have promised that we will build new infrastructure and a higher educational institution in BTC, and we will also take a series of measures to empower our mothers and sisters.”
Earlier, the Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said, as claimed by Chief Minister Sarma, that the report of the SIT has legally and factually established that Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of Opposition Lok Sabha, and his family have direct links with Pakistan’s ISI and are involved in anti-India activities.
As per a press note, the Assam BJP alleged, “On Wednesday, the SIT completed its investigation regarding the alleged Pakistan connection of Assam Pradesh Congress President Gaurav Gogoi and submitted a report to the Chief Minister, revealing that he and his wife are engaged in a major conspiracy aimed at weakening the sovereignty of India. The SIT report also proved their involvement in anti-India activities alongside a Pakistani national named Ali Tauqeer Sheikh.”
In the press release issued by State BJP Spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami it was alleged that Gaurav Gogoi, the son of late Tarun Gogoi – the three-time Chief Minister of Assam and President of Assam Congress – along with his spouse, “being involved in anti-national activities and maintaining connections with enemy nation Pakistan, has deeply embarrassed the people of Assam in front of Indian citizens.”
However, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday dismissed allegations of links with Pakistan levelled by CM Sarma as “fabricated,” accusing him of using such claims to divert attention from corruption in his government.
Gogoi hit out at Sarma, saying that the Assam CM disrespects the wisdom of the people of the state and assumes they will believe his “wild allegations.”
Speaking to reporters, Gogoi said, “He (Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma) thinks that people of Assam are foolish enough to believe his wild allegations. He does not respect the intelligence and the wisdom of the people of Assam.”
Gogoi accused the Assam CM of fabricating stories to divert attention from what he termed as the “corrupt rule”, alleging that Sarma had used his office to accumulate illegal wealth. (ANI)
